Mission

Greetings, and welcome to Physioformed!  My name is Dr. Eric Cedor, and I want to thank you for taking time to come and find out what we here at Physioformed can offer to you.  Physioformed represents an effort to help you reach your optimal potential as a clinician, “specializing in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction.”  Even though we largely present our content from the perspective of physical therapy, it is our hope that the information presented here will ultimately be of benefit to medical professionals of all areas of practice (and their patients).

Over the years, my own personal educational journey has led me in directions I never could have anticipated.  From an undergraduate degree in Humanities, to a post-college job as a waiter and through a providential encounter with a friend who encouraged me to try working as a physical therapy technician, I know that none of us arrive at our destination without bumps in the road.  Completing a doctor of science degree (ScD) with a concentration in education would have never entered into my frame of reference while I was brooding over what to do with my life in that restaurant!

In the words of TS Eliot, “(w)e shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”  I am the son of two English teachers, so you could say that education is in my blood, and perhaps in some way I was destined to, “end up where I started.”!  I remember how back in high school, my dad took me to the Johnson O’Conner Research Foundation to undergo a battery of tests to help determine my specific natural gifts or “aptitudes.”  I don’t remember much about the specifics of the test results, but I do remember that one of the careers which would best suit me was teaching.  It never entered into my mind that this career would be such a perfect fit, or that teaching would be such an integral part of my daily practice.

Patient-centered healthcare has at it’s heart a strong educational component.  The ability to identify, explain and “demystify” someone’s pain experience is both a tremendous gift and a weighty responsibility.  The longer I practice, and the more I recognize the invaluable value of time, the more responsibility I feel to my patients as a “trustee” of that time.

The drive to provide people with a precise, efficient and effective experience of rehabilitation has led me to where I am today.  As we begin, I hope to share with you some of the “little pearls” of wisdom I have accrued during my time in the physical therapy world in an effort to empower you towards a more satisfying and flourishing practice.  Some of these posts will focus on updates on the current research being done in our field, while others will focus on some of the more “interesting” cases I have encountered.  Still others may be simply ruminations on the state of medical practice and patient care.  In all things, I hope to provide something of value to you, whether you are a patient or a practitioner.

And so all that being said, let’s begin this journey together.

Kindest regards,

Eric Cedor, DPT, ScD, COMT
